About ACNM Pennsylvania Affiliate

MISSION:

We promote the health & well-being of women & newborns within their families and communities through the development & support of the profession of midwifery as practiced by both Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) & Certified Midwives (CMs).

The Pennsylvania Affiliate of American College of Nurse-Midwives is the unified voice of both Certified Nurse-Midwives & Certified Midwives in Pennsylvania.

Cooperation. Information. Representation.

COOPERATION:
  • Fosters a nurturing support system for association members which include Certified Nurse-Midwives & Certified Midwives.
  • Cooperates with other groups & organizations dedicated to promoting the health & well-being of Pennsylvania’s families.
  • Promotes the profession of midwifery, excellence in the practice of midwifery, and the education of midwives, both Certified Nurse-Midwives & Certified Midwives within Pennsylvania.
  • Encourage both CNMs & CMs to be active participants in functions relating to the ACNM.
INFORMATION:
  • Provides a recognized forum for the free exchange of ideas & information related to the midwifery profession & women’s health issues.
  • Serve as a source of information to the public & to government agencies concerning excellence in midwifery & women’s health care practices and services.
  • Engage in & support research activities relating to the profession of midwifery & women’s health.
  • Informs the ACNM of the needs & issues of the Affiliate.
REPRESENTATION:
  • Promotes the health & well-being of women & families in Pennsylvania by supporting the profession of midwifery & by removing barriers to access to midwifery care.
  • Represents our membership regarding issues impacting the practice of midwifery in Pennsylvania, supported by the guidelines of the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM).
  • Advocates for legislation and regulation that is favorable to midwifery practice.
  • Supports and fosters appropriate professional licensure regulations and legislation related to midwifery and women’s health issues.
